In this section, we guide you through a typical day as a Linear user, detailing the key practices and tools that help you stay organized and productive. Learn how to prioritize your tasks, use custom views effectively, and keep your team aligned with consistent updates and efficient issue management.
To stay focused every day, we recommend the following routines.
Weekly
- Check in on projects you’re leading and unblock issues with upcoming deadlines or SLAs, or issues with a Blocked or In review status that might need your action
- Read Pulse to stay up-to-date on work across your organization
- Send project updates for any projects you’re the Lead on
Ask Linear to give you updates and priorities for your week by asking, “What do I need to know and do this week?”
Daily
- Check your inbox for new notifications, updates, and upcoming deadlines
- Open up My Issues and group by Focus to see urgent, high priority issues that need your immediate attention
- If you’re on call, check Triage for new issues that need review
- Look in the Reviews tab. Review PRs where your review has been requested and check in on the status of PRs you’re waiting for review on
Simplify this into a single step by asking Linear, “What are my top priorities for today?”
As needed:
- Update issue and project statuses where relevant
- Move issues to the backlog or roll over to the next Cycle to keep your current workload focused
- Adjust due dates and target dates to reflect accurate timelines. The project progress graph can help you make accurate estimates.
- Maintain your project overviews as an accurate source of truth
- Add recently created documents, links, and external resources to their relevant projects
Pass meeting transcripts or records to Linear and ask it to synthesize them into new issues or update existing issues and documents.
