Triage

The shared inbox where incoming work gets reviewed.

Overview

Triage gives your team one place to review incoming work before it enters your workflow. It helps you decide what to take on and what to route elsewhere.

Turn on Triage

A team owner can enable Triage in team settings. Once enabled, incoming issues from outside the team will go to Triage first.

Assign Triage responsibility

Choose who reviews new issues as they arrive. Assign one person, rotate responsibility, or connect an on-call schedule from PagerDuty, Opsgenie, Rootly, or incident.io. The person responsible is notified when an issue enters triage.

Start simple

For your first few weeks, manage Triage manually. This helps your team understand the kinds of work that arrive and which decisions come up often.

Once you have a regular process, you can automate parts of it.

Automate repeated work

Linear offers several ways to reduce the manual work of reviewing, routing, and organizing incoming issues. Use them together or separately to handle triage in the way that fits your team.

Triage rules automatically update issues that match conditions you choose. For example, a rule can assign issues with a certain label to a specific person.

Triage Intelligence reviews incoming issues and suggests useful details, such as the right team, labels, assignee, project, or related issues.

Loops are automated agents that run on a schedule or when something happens in Linear. You give them instructions, and they carry out that work within the teams and projects you choose.
